Scales of Production - Mass Production Practical Activity

(0)
I use this resource to teach the benefits of mass production in a practical way. Its a fun and engaging way of teaching this topic. Pupils can create hundreds of different car designs using this resource and use the process to compare working as part of a team with trying to complete a task as an individual. Included in this resource are: 1x PowerPoint presentation that pupils can use to create a car. 1x 'Customer' Order forms. 1x Blank order form (so you can create your own and expand the task). 1x Puzzle worksheet showing all of the car parts. The task is based around fulfilling orders from customers. I split the class up into two groups. One takes charge of mass production - this group assigns roles and uses the PowerPoint as a team on the interactive whiteboard to create the final car for the customer. Pupils in the second group work independently using the puzzle worksheet to circle all of the parts required to fulfil the customers order. I often time the task and turn it into a race to see who can finish the order fastest or I add in multiple orders from different clients. In any case pupils find that creating cars that match the customers orders is much quicker and easier when using an organised mass production system where each pupil has assigned roles.
